Chateau de La Celle-Guenand

37350 LA CELLE-GUENAND

Nearest town: Tours

Positioned in central France, south of Tours, in the heart of an idyllic country village, this 'listed' chateau was founded in the early 15th century. Now the property offers traditional B&B accommodation and Gites with the comfort and amenities of modern life.

Panoramic views over countryside and a picturesque park-like garden, planted with ornamental trees (including a 400 year old Cedar-of-Lebanon tree) complete the wonderfully tranquil setting.

This area of Centre val-de-Loire is known as the Touraine du Sud and is one of the jewels of country France. The region is famous for its many beautiful castles and abbeys.

And there are lots of activities from fishing, water sports, swimming, golfing, riding, ballooning, and cycling, through to antique hunting, museums and arts and crafts to admire.

Within the grounds and the outbuildings of our chateau we offer five charming self-contained gites. There are three 2 bedroom and two 1 bedroom gites available. Each comes with a kitchen which is equiped with an oven, hob, microwave, and utensils. The dinning area has a table and chairs, and the sitting area has a sofa and chairs. Laundry on-site.

Attractions

Our idyllic village of La Celle-Guenand was formed in about the 11th century and consists of half-timbered houses, a Jewry, and a Roman Church with three naves. The local museum houses over 6500 tools, instruments, machines and ancient artifacts which represent over 130 traditional professions.

Nearby is the chateau de Le Grand Pressigny with the Museum of Prehistory, which makes it an interesting place to visit. Famous French philosopher, Rene Descartes was born in 1596 in a village a short distance away - today named after him. In Preuilly-sur-Claise you can find the Benedictine Abbey, Saint Pierre, foundered in 1001-1009.

Slightly further afield you can discover the Renaissance chateaux that line the river Loire and its tributaries. Many have been restored to their former regal glory. Famous castles in the area include chateau d'Amboise, Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais, and Villandry. There are also several villages of outstanding beauty and of historical significance, like Angles-sur-l'Anglin, Angers, Chinon, Loches, and Tours.
